Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County Workforce Readiness Program
In partnership with Bank of America, Taco Bell Foundation, and US Bank, this program equips high school teens with essential workforce readiness and job training skills. Since its launch in 2013, the program has provided over 2,000 local teens with workforce readiness training, and 434 participants have secured their first paid jobs with local businesses, elected officials, and non-profits.
Career Launch
From February 24 to May 9, 2024, teens attend weekly classes at the E.L. Jack and Monica Armstrong Youth Center (801 Niles Street, Bakersfield) from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. This premier workforce development program hones critical workplace skills like decision-making, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Participants explore careers aligned with their interests and talents, map out corresponding educational paths, and learn job-search strategies.
Summer Jobs Program
Teens who complete "Career Launch" can apply for a paid part-time internship with a local business. Interns work Monday through Thursday for five weeks, following a one-week youth employee onboarding. On Fridays, they participate in professional development sessions covering financial literacy, professional and dining etiquette, cell phone usage, First Aid, CPR, AED training, and food handling certifications. (June 9 to July 11, 2025)
